Riley is a Senior graduating from Casa Robles this year. We celebrated his upcoming next chapter with a session in Old Folsom last week.
I had never met Riley before but know his mom, Heather. I found him to be charming and sweet, although I’m sure no teenage boy wants to be called sweet by one of his mom’s friends. He definitely has an “edgy” edge to him too that made him fun and easy to photograph, a cool swagger, comfortable in his own skin. But underneath you get that the essence of him is… sorry… yeah, sweet.
I tried to capture all the sides of Riley: sweet and savory.
Here are some of my faves.
Limited Availability this Fall
I have limited spots available through November 24th for sessions. Please get in touch soon if you would like to schedule a session for your graduating Senior, or your family this Fall.
Jessica is an incredibly busy girl. Just trying to get on the phone with her to get to know her a little before our session was quite the task! She was in Washington D.C. one minute and the next running back and forth at all hours of the day from Folsom High School where she is heavily involved on the student council and with school sports. Mentioning that she is also involved with advanced English learning about contraction words and literature. As you’ll see from her photos, she’s also an avid soccer player. Her mom, Jamie, who won this session at a charity auction, proudly told me that she’s on the go all the time. (My kind of girl!)
After finally speaking with her, we decided that soccer (or in my still wild, British heart, football) had to be incorporated into her session somehow, so we met up at Lembi Park in Folsom a few weekends ago to warm up with the soccer ball. And the girl has moves! She dribbled, finger-twirled, and head-butted her way through our first half an hour before a quick change and a walk along the Willow Creek trails and nearby, abandoned railway tracks.
Jessica was so fun to photograph, so natural and with an easy laugh. I even convinced mom to get in a few images too. We walked, talked and played with different locations until the sun literally disappeared and we found ourselves shooting by moonlight.
After she graduates this year, Jessica will be off to Mercy College to study nursing. Her boundless, capable energy and down-to-earth nature will make a her a fantastic care giver. I loved every minute I spent with her and her mom.
I love photographing families and young children. I really do. But I can’t deny that it’s occasionally nice to stop crawling in the mud to spend some time taking beautiful photos of High School Seniors.
First of all, they stand still, which means you can take a moment to really compose a shot and think about lighting. Secondly, for the most part (and even if they don’t admit it), they kinda like having their photo taken. I also just really enjoy working with teenagers. They have so much positive energy and are at such a pivotal time in their lives; it’s great to chat with them about boyfriends and girlfriends (and get a blush) or plans for the future.
Lucky me, I got to photograph High School Senior, Erica, at my mini-session recently. She was really sweet and ready for anything I threw at her. Given we only had 20 minutes to get to know one another AND take photos, I think we did well. Thanks, Erica!
